Changing a Motorcycle Tyre
Changing a motorcycle tyre can either be done by a professional motorcycle technician, or if you do not have the time by yourself. If you follow a few simple steps you should be able to change your motorcycle tyre with as little fuss as possible, like searching for a helmet that fits appropriately. It can be a little bit of a fiddly process if you have not done it before, but the more you practise the quicker and easier the whole process will appear to you. If you have any instructions that come with the tyre and the changing of tyres you should have them at the ready, as well as your tools, and a pocket full of will power at the ready.
The Valve
The first thing you should do is take the valve out of your tyre so nothing bursts. Take it out swiftly, and then begin to cleanse the inside of the tyre with some kind of lubrication so as it is easier to take off when it is ready. You should then plunge one or two levers into the tyre which you will have at the ready. This beginning process is fairly easy, though you may find that plunging the leavers into the rim of the tyre can be a little difficult at first, so try to do things forcefully but carefully. Once you have your leavers in you should be ready to pull off most of the tyre.
Once you have one side of the tyre off you can usually go to the other side and plunge the leavers in, which should then pretty easily and naturally sling the rest of the tyre off in a very simple fashion. Next up you should get your new and shiny tyre at the ready, because you are going to try and slide this baby around the rim for your next mission. There is a technique to this and it does not require all that much strength so make sure you do not use too much force. If you do use too much force you will probably run the risk of chipping some of the paint work, either on the rim or on the actual motor herself, so try and be as careful as you can.
Slipping it On
When you put the tyre back on it is more about how you manoeuvre the tyre, rather than just jamming the thing on. Once you have part of the tyre on, or at least half, the rest should naturally ebb onto the rest of the rim with minimal effort. Once you have the tyre squarely on you are free to pump it up.
So give your biceps a stretch and start to get ready to pump your tyre up. You should try to think about the best way to pump up the tyre, as quite often you will need to use some special apparatus to aid you in the process. For those that do not have great upper body strength, you should try and get someone else to help you with the act of pumping up the new tyre.
Once the tyre has been pumped up, you will probably hear a few loud pops (do not worry this is not your tyre bursting), these are just the beads finding their place in the tyre. Once it has been fully pumped you should be ready to ride, just make sure that everything is square and that you balance the wheel. Once you have learned the art of changing a motorcycle tyre, crack open a beer to celebrate and look forward to testing out your new tyre.
